CONCRETE SLABS

Qualislab specializes and is experienced in various types of concrete slabs like In situ, Rib and block as well as Polystyrene slabs. Each slab type has its own form, function and design. Concrete slabs are constructed when a building or development has more than one storey or levels or when a flat concrete roof is needed Our structural engineers do a design according to the architectural drawings and the specific needs.

Concrete slabs are created by casting concrete onto or into a pre-formed structure which is supported by formwork. The slab is constructed by erecting formwork (or scaffolding) that covers the area of the building that requires a slab. Once the formwork is in place, the deck is then leveled and steel fixed according to engineers’ specifications. Once this has been done, the appointed electricians and plumbers install their light boxes and pipes. Engineer does an inspection of the steel prior to casting once approved the final step is then to cast the wet concrete – usually by means of a concrete pump and ready-mix concrete that is supplied with concrete trucks.
Once the concrete has been cast, the formwork remains in place for at least 7 days after which 70%-80% of the formwork is stripped. The remaining props are then removed after a further 14 days.
